About Us

Owned by Florence-trained bookbinder Isabelle Ting, the Owl & Lion Bindery is the first bookbinding establishment to open in the city for decades.

Isabelle is a professionally trained bookbinder and printmaker who has worked for clients such as the National Trust, the National Museum of Scotland and Edinburgh College of Art. In 2007 Isabelle co-founded the Owl & Lion Gallery in Edinburgh's Grassmarket. In 2011 the gallery closed only for the Owl & Lion Bindery to rise like a phoenix from its ashes – only in West Port this time.

Isabelle offers bookbinding classes for all levels, as well as producing her own innovative ranges of hand-bound books.

The Owl & Lion offer the largest selection of bookbinding classes in Scotland. Our classes cater for all abilities and interests, and allow students to explore a wide variety of bookbinding techniques. The bindery is a relaxed and friendly venue where students can discuss ideas and progress at their own pace. Class sizes are small to allow students to benefit from close supervision and to put into practice what they learn.
